The pressure on the planet's resources is steadily increasing; with the increasing population there is a growing demand for food, goods and access to clean water and more energy. Chemists have an essential role to play, because the majority of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are related to chemistry. China is also fully endorsing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. China will pursue green development by promoting a green and low-carbon development model and lifestyle, protecting ecological system. This will be the first of hopefully a successful series of Green and Sustainable Chemistry Conferences in China.
The field of Green and Sustainable Chemistry is essential in developing methods to reduce or prevent waste, save energy, develop alternative energy sources, and innovative use of existing natural resources. These developments will not only contribute to a more sustainable growth of industry but also to a more green economy and clean environment.
The 1st International Green and Sustainable Chemistry Conference, organized by the Chinese Chemical Society in collaboration with Elsevier, will address the broad scope of Green and Sustainable Chemistry presenting the latest contributions and developments of chemistry to the SDGs. This truly international, with half of the speakers from outside of China, will provide a forum for participants from academia and industry, from government and non-government organizations to address the challenges of our time. The venue will be the beautiful zero-carbon emission Beijing Yanqi Lake International Convention & Exhibition Center.
